Fun Halloween Happenings for Children

Looking for safe and fun activities for your children this Halloween?

Richmond's Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities
offers free supervised Halloween fun and games at its community centers
throughout the city on Friday, Oct. 30.

Children ages 6 through 12 can participate in "Halloween Happenings" at
the Hickory Hill Community Center, located at 3000 E. Belt Boulevard,
from 6 to 9 p.m. Activities will include pumpkin carving, a costume
contest, face painting and plenty of games. Light refreshments will be
served, and children who bring their own bags or baskets can decorate
them for Halloween. For more information, call 646-7934.

At Humphrey Calder Community Center, located at 414 N. Thompson St.,
children ages 5 to 13 can experience the thrills and chills of Halloween
with a visit to the Haunted House. It will be open from 5 to 8 p.m., and
free Halloween "treats" will be provided for "brave souls." For more
information, call 646-1780.

A Harvest Festival will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Pine Camp Arts
and Community Center, located at 4901 Old Brook Rd. It's for children 6
to 15 years old, and will include face painting, scary games and videos,
and free pizza and candy. For more information, call 646-3672.

A Halloween Carnival for all ages will be held at Ann Hardy Plaza from 6
to 9 p.m. The Carnival will include a costume contest, scary movies, and
Halloween games and crafts. It's located at 3300 First Ave. For more
information, call 646-4824.

A Boo House will bring Halloween fun to the Randolph Community Center at
1415 Grayland Ave. It will be open from 6 to 8 p.m. Call 646-1080 for
more information.

Starting at 7 p.m., the Westover Community Center at 1301 Jahnke Rd.
will host a flashlight pumpkin and candy hunt. A moon bounce and music
will add to the Halloween fun. Call 646-8995 for more information.

GXW Pro Wrestling will bring its "Invasion of the Bodyslammers 2009
Tour" to the Hotchkiss Community Center, located at 701 E. Brookland
Park Blvd., at 7 p.m. There is a $5 admission fee for this event. The
center will also be giving away candy to all children age 14 and younger
and collecting food for the Virginia Food Bank. For more information
call 646-4466.

In addition, any child age 12 and younger can come by the Bellemeade
Community, located at 1800 Lynhaven Ave., on Saturday, Oct. 31, between
4 and 6 p.m. and receive a free goodie bag of treats.
