Department holds two volunteer cleanups in recognition of Obama's call to
action
Individuals who want to respond to President-Elect Obama's call for
personal responsibility, volunteerism and community action during the Martin
Luther King Jr. holiday can volunteer with Richmond's Department of Parks,
Recreation and Community Facilities for two park cleanups.
The first will be on Saturday, January 17, from 9 a.m. to noon at
the James River Park System's Pony Pasture, which is located on the south
bank of the river just two miles downstream from the Huguenot Bridge on
Riverside Drive.
The second will be held Monday, January 19, also from 9 a.m. to
noon, at the park system's Ancarrow's Landing, where the Slave Trail begins.
Ancarrow's is located at the east end of Maury Street on the river's south
side.
Volunteers should dress appropriate for the weather, wear sturdy
work shoes and work gloves. They will be spreading woodchips and picking up
litter.
