Hello to all,

Good morning.

Lee, this effort Betsy Coffield is working on with our VCU student body is a
program that can reap a strong harvest of solid collaboration, good will,
and positive publicity for the FDA with our efforts of partnering with VCU.
Much work has gone into getting the students engaged with our community and
I would hate to see us waste this valuable opportunity by not having a good
showing at this event. Please make every effort from the board to get
neighbors and friends of the FDA, like all the other community organization
within the FAN, well informed and on board.

To all of you within our membership base... lets show everyone watching that
we are a community of real positive influence and constructive leadership
for our Community of the Future, in the City of the Future. Now is not the
time to sit back and ask..."What have you done for me lately?" Instead,
this is an opportunity for you to make a real difference in the effort to
work for something bigger than yourself. If you ever had the wish to make
clear to the university and the student body that we are ONE COMMUNITY,
then take this opportunity and make your voice heard.

If it is true that the youth are our future, we need to show these young
adults that we are all in this together... and together is where it's at!!!!

Thanks in advance to all who show up for this "Fan Litter Sweep"
collaborative effort on Saturday, February 28 from 1 - 3 pm. As mentioned
below, we are all meeting at Meadow Park, Saturday the 28th to branch out
into teams of "Litter Free Agents" between 12:45 and 1:00 pm.

I'll see you all there!

Jim Vigeant
FDA/VCU Liaison

Fan District residents have been invited to participate in a first ever Fan
Litter Sweep on Saturday, February 28th from 1-3p.m.. A group of VCU
graduate students have approached the FDA and expressed interest in becoming
more involved in our neighborhood by helping us rid ourselves of litter in
some of our more problematic areas. A way of "reaching out" to our
community to help clean up streets, alleys and sidewalks. Working together
will help both groups to identify problematic areas of the Fan and to help
rid those areas of litter. The sweep will work in two ways:
First, nominations will be taken from anyone receiving this email (or flyer)
in telling us where YOU feel the biggest need for litter pick up in the Fan
may be. This may include alleys, streets, or sidewalks. (No homes or yards
please.)
Secondly, those areas receiving votes will then become areas for the clean
up on Saturday February 28th. ALL Fan residents are invited to participate
in the clean up, which will last from 1:00pm until 3:00pm.
Plastic bags, and gloves will be provided by VCU for each individual, and
there will be a pizza party afterwards for all attendees at the Student
Commons Building on the VCU campus. A total of 36 students (and still
counting!!) have already signed up, and ideally we would like to see at
least that many from the Fan community join in too. Everyone will meet at
Meadow Park for the kickoff at 1:00 and your assignments will be given out
then.

Please consider this a day to give back to your neighborhood by helping to
rid us of unwanted litter (which willl be recycled!) and a chance to reach
out to the VCU community who are supporting this cause. Email your clean up
nominations to: Betsy Coffield at Coffieldsupply at aol.com before February
24th. Thanks in advance!!

This clean up was tested a few weeks ago in Oregon Hill to much success.
Because of that, VCU has decided to roll it out to the Fan area, and the
FDA would really like to have as many participants as possible.
